Prehnite

 

Prehnite is a calcium silicate mineral of aluminum with traces of iron, that crystallizes in orthorhombic crystal formation. Its color is light translucent green.

Some of the Prehnites have yellowish shadows, a chemical effect of the oxidation of iron in the rock. The first to discover it, studied it and transported it to the Netherlands in 1788, was General Hendrik Von Prehn, commander of the Dutch parish's forces at the Cape of Good Hope. The new mineral in the gemology map, was Prehnite after Von Prehn.

Prehnite is now found mainly in basalt soils at the area of Wave Hill Station in North Australia. Rare orange prehnite found in manganese deposits in Kalahari, South Africa.
